We are moving into the new house today. There is still not really a kitchen, but the stairs are painted and the old carpeting debris has been moved out to the garage. It has been hard on all of us having Steve go up for a few days at a time while Aidan and I wait here. Steve begins to feel overwhelmed and Aidan and I are getting stir crazy, so we're going to just go.
I don't have a phone or internet access up there yet, so I might be scarce here for a short while. A friend of mine has offered to let me hook up to the DSL in his office, so I might be checking in from there.
We think there is someone squatting there, but if so, they leave no evidence except for turning on lights. The house has been vacant and unlocked since September, so it wouldn't be out of the question. It's just that everytime Steve leaves, he is sure that he turns all of the lights off, and everytime he returns, there are lights on. Last weekend, he and his twin brother were up there, talking in the garage. His brother is saying to get rid of the garage windows and Steve is saying - no, that he likes them because if he's doing carpentry or painting work in there, he can open them and get some air. The windows were shut because it was, of course, bitterly cold. The next morning when they got up, the windows had been opened. So what do you think, ghost or squatter?

but wouldn't a squatter (if they were, you know, mildly sane) want the windows shut to keep a little heat in - isn't it awfully cold up there right about now? now, then, crazy-squatter, poltergeist, or the smoking-and-general-hideout-place of kids in the neighborhood? aha.
yeah, we thought maybe someone was up in the loft of the garage, heard their conversation, and was just messing with them - but kid hangout is also a distinct possibility - is that a suggestion from someone who has experience with such places? ;) There are plenty of cig butts and beer cans around, but we have always attributed them to the tennants.
I am sure Wes will welcome who or what every it is! If he starts barking at the garage and Steve is not around, please do not go into it by yourself!! Have you met your neighbors? If not, this is a good time to do it. They might have noticed something when Steve was not there.
Love, Mom
i say its kids in there smoking and drinking - windows open cause of the smoke. When I was about 16 we used to go hang out at an ababndoned house to smoke ciarettes on Lunch break from school. Definatley not an unusual thing for rural teens. Once they see your stuff there and you guys they probably wont be around
GHOST!
Just because that's the more interesting possibility!
Good luck moving!
i was randomly on a website - thudfactor.com - and i recognized DruBlood (and i thot to myself, why do i know that name? aha, because christy has it) and i thot, ahhh, forget the world wide web - it's a small internet after all. i just thot it was interesting. doesn't have much to do with Moving Day though. :)
