I've been planning on home schooling since I first read about unschooling on HipMama. I've kept myself open to all kinds of possibilities in the meanwhile, but I've always come back to the feeling that sending kids to school institutionalizes them and I don't want to institutionalize my kids.
So today is the day! I thought it was yesterday, but all of the kids on the streets of town cooled my feeling that I was doing something deviant. The county fair ended Monday evening in our town and I guess that the schools thought it wise to give themselves an extra day after the revelry.
Two coincidences have comforted me in my decision today. One was that I vote on sites for Soul of the Web and one of the sites that I looked at today is a Flash labyrinth that, on my visit, led me to a poem called "I am the Student". (Click on the red thing in the lower right corner, then the center of the map/vagina thing, then the book.) It uses words like "leash", and "puppet". The other thing is that Aidan woke up with a fever this morning. He couldn't have gone to school anyway.

Wow!
Checking the log files for bluesuburbia I found your blog. I had to comment. The creator of bluesuburbia was homeschooled with her two sibblings for most of her school years except for a couple highschool years and the poem expresses her observations and experience in public school. Make sure to take a look at the Johnny animation in the basement (vol.1)
I am pretty much done with homeschooling my 3 kids and I have to say I am so glad I did it.
Wish you the best,
"bluesuburbia's" mom

Dear Christy,
It was a wonderful surprise seeing Steve yesterday at the jam. He reminded me about this website and I went online to see the pictures of Will. He is beautiful! Sounds like you have a wonderful life in your new home. We're so happy for you. I'm so sorry to read about Wes. It is so painful when you lose a pet who is so close to you. My deepest sympathies are with you. Hope to see you soon.
Love, Olympia
One of the wonderful things about homeschooling for us is that Cole (3) is so attached to Monk (7). They have a relationship that I don't think I ever had with any of my siblings. When monk is gone for more than a few hours, sometimes LESS, Coley mourns. The other day, Monk slept over at his papa's house, and coley woke up and said "I MISS my Monkeyman!"
Have fun, mama!
